“Navigating Paradise” is a collection of stories about the places and people that Mark Hinshaw and his wife Savina have encountered since they moved to Italy.
Much like Mark Twain’s “The Innocents Abroad,” these stories are told with a humorous touch: it is the journey of an American couple literally stumbling upon the culture, customs, and convoluted bureaucratic procedures of Italy. Unlike other books that depict the Bel Paese, there is less romanticism in the description here. The focus is on everyday life, with its comedies and tragedies. The author particularly wanted to highlight the kindness and generosity of the many Italians who helped them in their decision to live in Italy.
